Privacy policy

The short version: Tape Legend works on your own computer. Your videos, the faces in them, their names and what was said never leave it. There's no account, no ads and no tracking in the app.

The app

Your tapes and everything made from them

Recordings, cleaned-up copies, scenes, dates, face groups, the names you type and transcripts are all made and stored on your PC. We never receive them. Face grouping only compares faces inside your own library, never against any outside database.

The family website

The family website is a folder on your computer. It only goes anywhere if you copy it or send it yourself. Choose what to include before you share it, since anyone with the folder can see the names in it.

Your licence key

When you enter a key, the app checks it with our licence server at pay.polyology.co. It sends the key and a scrambled ID for the computer, so one key works on up to 3 computers. It checks again now and then, and keeps working offline in between.

Downloads

The app may download its open-source face and speech models the first time you use those features. Those downloads don't include anything about you or your videos.

Purchases

Payment is handled by Stripe. We receive your email address so we can send your key and help if you lose it. We never see your full card details.

This website

tapelegend.com counts page visits so we know whether anyone is reading it. It uses Polyology's own cookie-less counter, which stores daily totals and a one-way hash that changes every day, never IP addresses, and skips browsers that send Do Not Track. It also uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, which doesn't use cookies or track you across sites. Amazon Web Services hosts the site. If you email us, we use your message only to reply.
